So yeah, it’s that day today.  Valentine’s Day, the day pastry chefs everywhere secretly (or not so secretly) despise as I’ve discussed before.  The intense need to do something special, something important, something meaningful is so high it’s nearly unattainable.  So I recommend you stay home and simply enjoy the company of your loved ones from the comfort of your couch.  Avoid the obnoxious crowds and eat a bowl of cereal for dinner.  Maybe even Lucky Charms where you picked out all the marshmallows except the pink hearts.

I’m not much of a chocolate person.  I know.  The horror!  Vanilla, fruit, caramel. Those are my fixes.  Salted caramel will send me into a frenzy.  It’s rather ironic that for quite some time I was the quality control and recipe development chick for a chocolate company.  Now that’s funny.  But maybe because I wasn’t a chocoholic is why it worked so well – I could taste the chocolate for what it was rather than getting all hung up on it.  Plus, when you’re around that much chocolate all the time, you don’t think much about it.  Hard to believe, but you become rather desensitized to it all.  I know, I know.  Even writing this I realize how ridiculous it sounds and can just imagine all your eyes bulging in disbelief.  Alas, it’s true in all it’s blasphemous glory.
